In 1945, Greene packed her bags and headed for New York City to work on a housing project for Stuyvesant Town in lower Manhattan after reading a newspaper article that the project would be funded by the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. However, the War has ended that, and Negro women in the postwar world will have a fertile field in architecture. She advocated for professional Black women throughout her 18-year career. One year later she earned a Masters of Science in city planning and housing from the same university.
